About Me

I recently relocated from Tucson, Arizona to Grand Rapids, Michigan. As I’m meeting new people and getting familiar with Western Michigan, I’ve found Hello West Michigan and Little Space Studio to be welcoming and helpful.

Besides working as a WordPress site manager, I also nerd out on UI/UX, CSS, Machine Learning, VR and all things science. For three years I was the Phoenix co-lead for Freelancers Union’s Spark local meetup. I’ve been a freelancer for a decade. I’m also a member of IXDA-Phoenix, Girl Develop IT Phoenix, and Women Who Code Phoenix.

Web Writer

I started as a journalist for a small local Michigan paper and soon became a “content creator” for many different forms of media including copywriting, editorial calendar content marketing management, nonfiction ghostwriting, vlogging and podcasting. My experience has even included stints as a writing instructor and comic book editor. While I still enjoy interviewing business owners in order to transform their stories into effective user experiences for their websites, I’ve moved into marketing technology and website customization as a necessity to help my clients.

I’m also a Wolverine–Go Blue! Photo by Martin Vorel.

Nonprofit CCO

For half a decade I served as the Chief Communications Officer of RealtimeSTEAM, an Arizona Nonprofit, specializing in producing popular science programming for the public including conferences, pop culture events, gallery installations and speaker sourcing. We collaborated with Phoenix Comicon 2017 to produce science and education programming with over 100 hours of panels, science guests, expos and exhibits. I produced the Science Interactive Space in the Hall of Heroes with 15 STEM-based organizations and the Edutech Expo: Education Track reception with 16 exhibitors.

I project managed the transformation of a birding sites book into a smartphone app for my local Audubon chapter.  I co-coordinated the grant to install the Burrowing Owl habitat at Zanjero Park, Gilbert. I have also served on local conservation nonprofit boards as PR Director and Director of Membership. I like lichen.

Woman-Led Small Business Owner

I’m the owner of Remedy Website Repair, fixing and upgrading websites for small businesses . Some resouces for women-led tech businesses I use are Startup Foundation AZ, Local First Arizona (proud member), Women Techmakers, and Women in Technology International (WITI),

Eventing

I have served on four Startup Weekend, co-sponsored by the city of Chandler, Arizona and headquartered at co-working space Gangplank, and three WordCamp organizing committees. I have also managed events designed to generate business leads and fulfill research outreach grant requirements. I was the festival manager for the last three Scottsdale International Film Festivals.

hiking

When I’m not writing or learning new tech, I’m still a dedicated plant nerd stemming from my time as a University of Arizona Maricopa County Cooperative Master Gardener. If I don’t see you on a hiking trail, you’ll find me at a book sale, any book sale.

VR for Good

I gave a now annual talk with Phoenix VR for Good. I discussed the ethical challenges or VR/AR/XR using the 1960s cult TV series The Prisoner as my framing.

Ignite Phoenix

Here I am at Ignite Phoenix #14: Citizen Science Arizona: Asteroid Hunting, Ferret Flashing and BioBlitzes

TechPHX

My talk at TechPHX, Be a Smarter Volunteer with Your Smartphone, was designed to explain why volunteers need to leverage their experience to engage a diverse future volunteer base, demonstrate a few techniques and survey the current crop of mobile apps to save endangered species, feed the homeless, bring non-profits into the 21st Century and help everyone become volunteer rock stars.
